Overview

Shamwari is a 250 sq km (96 sq mile) private game reserve located 45 minutes from Port Elizabeth along the Bushman’s River. The reserve boasts six unique lodges and an explorer camp, with Bayethe Tented Lodge being their sole luxury tented lodge. The private reserve is largely comprised of reclaimed farm land where game has now been reintroduced.
Shamwari is home to five of South Africa’s seven biomes, making it a destination unlike any other.

The name for this Shamwari lodge comes from the African greeting, pronounced “By-ye-ti”. The English translation for this word is “I salute you” and is one of the warmest welcomes in the African culture in this area of the country.
